Darksiders

Gave up on Darksiders today. I was about 10 hours in, and not really having fun any more.

In general I liked the game; satisfying combat, good visuals, complex mechanics. What really killed it for me was the awful platforming, and how it seemed to be increasing as the game progressed. After failing a jump and falling down a death pit for the Nth time, I called it quits and watched the ending on YouTube.

Other (minor) complaints include: cumbersome gear management, very restrictive FOV.

I do plan on giving the sequel a try; I’ve heard good things about it. Hopefully it’s more judicious in its use of bottomless pits.

New Year's Eve Eve

I have a few things to wrap up before the new year, and time is running short. In particular, I need to find a new apartment and attend a LAN party. It’s important to keep your priorities in order.

I’ll also be doing a retrospective of 2015, mostly focused on SRPG progress. Sort of a pre-postmortem to see what’s been going right and what’s been going wrong.

Resolution

Today I resolve to be more resolute. Starting tomorrow.

I kid, but this is my biggest regret of 2015. Leaving things for tomorrow when I’m absolutely certain I could do them today. That’s why my New Year’s resolution is a bit early; I already know what needs to be done, so there’s no reason to wait.

Homecoming

Drove home. Decided to replace Middleman with Hexo. Seems much faster and cleaner so far. Unfortunately, it uses different date and filename formats, so I have to do a bunch of manual cleanup. You’ll notice the site looks a bit different now.

Generator Problems

Middleman is misbehaving. It’s been getting very slow lately anyway, so I’m going to look at other site generators to replace it.

Didn’t get to see TFA; theaters are too packed this weekend.

Meanwhile, got to try out some SRPG ideas in Numenera.

On the Road

Christmas Eve, time to drive down to Oregon. Plans include food, roleplaying (Numenera, Star Wars and D&D), possibly going to see TFA again.

The Star War

Went and saw Star Wars: TFA today. We need to go see it again because we had front-row seats. The 30% of the screen I could view seemed like an excellent film. Going to go see it again later to get the full experience.

Daily Update 355.2015

Numenera prep today, hoping to run a session over Christmas. I run two Numenera campaigns (R and W, for reasons) currently and will be using both of them as testbeds for SRPG characters, puzzles, etc.

The W campaign gets the Baron, the city, and the aethernaut sections. The R campaign (for Christmas) will get more of the puzzle elements and characters.
