Daily Update 334.2015

Changes:

  • Learned about configuring HHVM vs PHP-FPM. Pretty exciting. HHVM is neat (and fast), but has some glaring features missing (notably the ‘yield’ featured in PHP).

Bugs & Problems:

  • My math is a bit rusty, particularly probabilities.

Weekly Update #20

Changes & Updates:

  • Finished the DLC for Dishonored. Played the regular campaign on 100% pacifist/stealth, played the DLC on 100% violence/chaos. Nice to knock it off the backlog.
  • Finished the Captain Scarlett DLC for Borderlands 2. Getting pretty close to being able to uninstall.
  • Played through Burial at Sea Episode 1 (DLC for Bioshock: Infinite). Just leaves Episode 2.
  • Doing more Numenera prep this weekend. SketchUp has been very helpful for visualization. Numenera is becoming my StupidRPG concept testbed.
  • Assembled two puzzles. One involves time travel (altering the present state of a room to allow access to a door in the future), the other involves a teleporting elevator with some very slightly mathy controls.
  • Put together both puzzles in SketchUp, along with some other Numenera stuff.

Bugs & Problems:

  • RIP monitor.

Daily Update 332.2015

  • Put together both puzzles in SketchUp, along with some other Numenera stuff.

Bugs & Problems:

  • Nothing new

Daily Update 331.2015

Changes:

  • Finished the Dishonored DLC and uninstalled. Nice to knock one off the backlog.

Bugs & Problems:

  • Gave up on fixing the monitor. Most likely cause is bad capacitors and I don’t have a soldering iron and/or the inclination to learn how to use one right now. Will be happy with 2 monitors for now and revisit when I build my next PC.

Daily Update 330.2015

Changes:

  • About halfway through the DLC for Dishonored. Played the regular campaign on 100% pacifist/stealth, playing the DLC on 100% violence/chaos.
  • Finished the Captain Scarlett DLC for Borderlands 2. Getting pretty close to being able to uninstall.

Bugs & Problems:

  • One of my monitors is misbehaving. First monitor I bought in college, so I’ve had it for close to 10 years. Very sad.

The Menu

  • Turkey
  • Taters
  • Pie
  • Mac+Cheese Casserole
  • Stuffing (I’m told it’s called Dressing if it isn’t inside a turkey)
  • Beer

TIL

As part of my goal to get back to CS fundamentals, today I learned about red-black trees, a type of binary search tree with some interesting self-balancing properties. Need to do some more reading on BSTs, B-trees and red-black trees.

SketchUp

I’m trying out SketchUp for D&D/Numenera mapping. Having a good time so far, makes me wish I had a 3D printer.
